On our first visit to Ndago Primary School we learned it serves over 600 children grades 1 to 4 in just four classrooms. The tiny grass hut to the right in the photo is the school kitchen where porridge is made for the children, but without a reliable nearby source of fresh water.
Approximately 80 households in the nearby Chikwakwasu Village were also in need of water.
The Chikwakwasu water committee and school administrators said there is a well that goes dry every October.
The water from this well is also salty making it undesirable for drinking.
The crew spent two days conducting research on the site. The results were not entirely promising, but we did find one location where the readings were favorable enough to recommend drilling.
The day of the drilling, children sat in the shade of the school building to watch the activity. The drillers struck water at 60 feet and completed a new well that provides fresh, clean water--just in time for the start of the 2025 school year.
